Highlights of the Week (24/25 Term 1 Week 10)

PN

Hello everyone! Our PN kids have had another amazing week at school! We were thrilled to start off the week with the fun new theme “My Toys” from the Pippa and Pop book. We had so much fun talking about our favorite toys and sharing why we love them. It was great hearing all the exciting stories! For English, we learned about the letter F and its related words frog, fox, fan, and feet. We loved hopping around like frogs, using both of our hands and feet. It was such a lively and fun exercise! For Math, we explored the new number 4. We had a blast going on a toy hunt around the classroom, counting all the hidden toys we found! To wrap up the week, we focused on the sense of sight as part of our exploration of the five senses. We had a chance to use binoculars to look at things in the dark and guess what they are! That’s all for this week! We look forward to another exciting week ahead!

K1

We enter the month of November with lots of excitement as we have so much fun planned this month. We continue to explore the topic of ‘My Senses’ with Pippa and Pop this week as we reinforce speaking about our senses using full sentences; for example, “I can use my eyes to see the moon.” In order to delve deeper into this topic, we used Critical Thinking this week to explore our five senses with lots of hands-on activities such as taste testing activities, mystery box games, exploring the sounds different musical instruments make and more! In Phonics, we revised our previous letters and practiced recognizing and tracing letters V and W. We also played a fun game where the students attempted to match their pictures to their own name; it was wonderful to see that some of our students can recognize their names! Math was interesting this week as we used our classroom objects and toys to make groups of objects and identified which group has more vs fewer. We look forward to more exciting experiments and activities next week.

K2

This week for Critical Thinking, we conducted the ‘Bouncy egg” experiment. First, as an introduction, we showed the students an egg and asked them to use their five senses such as sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste. Then we demonstrated how to dissolve the egg in vinegar and observed the bubble rising to the top of the vinegar. We also made predictions of what would happen to the egg.

After two to three days, we poured out the egg and found that the egg felt rubbery. We took turns to feel the egg, and gently bounced the egg. We were so surprised to see that the egg can become bouncy like a ball. We had so much fun conducting this experiment. We then described and drew what we saw on a worksheet illustrating what a bouncy egg looks like.

For Math this week, we continued looking at neighbouring numbers between 1 to 10. We had a lot of practice whilst referring to the number line to help us figure out the number before or after.  During small group time, we also practised counting objects up to 20, whilst adopting the approach of counting objects row by row to make the objects clearer for us to count.

K3

Hello everyone! We had a short week here at ABC, but we still had a lot of fun! We’ve started a new month and with it a new unit in our Critical Thinking. This week we discussed our five senses and words we can use to describe them. We talked about taste, smell, hearing, sight and touch. We also played a guessing game using our senses while losing another; our sight! In Math this week, we reviewed telling time and subtraction. For time, we reviewed telling time at the hour, o’clock, and half past the hour. For subtraction, we reviewed how to use a number line when doing subtraction. In our Physical Play this month, we are focusing on the importance of stretching by introducing different stretches and yoga poses.  We also got to visit a wonderful school on our field trip and learned about books! We even got to meet a real author who read us one of her stories. We had a great time! Thank you for taking time to read about our week, and we cannot wait to see what is in store for next week!
