Highlights of the Week (24/25 Term 1 Week 8)

PN

Hello everyone! Welcome to Week 8! What an exciting week we had in ABC! We started off our week with the lovely story "The Big Carrot" from our Pippa & Pop book. The children enjoyed pretending to be the family members working together to pull the giant carrot out from the ground. Their imaginations ran wild as they took on different roles, giggling and cheering each other on, teamwork at its best! We also had a blast revising our letters! Focusing on C and D, we dove into a sorting game where we matched objects to the correct beginning letters. It was so much fun to see every one recognize and shout out words that started with C and D! To round up our week, we explored the concepts of big and small through catchy songs and engaging stories. We loved singing along and identifying big and small objects in the classroom. What a wonderful week filled with fun, learning, and creativity! We can't wait to see what next week has in store!

K1

Welcome to Week 8 of our learning journey! With Halloween just around the corner, we introduced how and when people celebrate it. The students also expanded their vocabulary by learning some Halloween-themed words.

In phonics, we focused on the letters Q, R, and S. For our Cambridge lessons, we explored a story about resilience, teaching our students the importance of bouncing back from challenges.

In Math, we introduced the concept of sorting by grouping similar objects together and discovered a new shape—the triangle!

That’s a wrap for this week! We can’t wait to see what next week brings.

K2

Welcome to week 8 everyone! In this week, our K2 students are introduced to the festivity that is right around the corner – Halloween! We’ve learned that on the day of Halloween, people would get dressed up as spooky creatures or their favourite characters and visit different houses! To get lots to candies, we have to say “trick or treat” when someone answers the door. We talked about some iconic Halloween symbols including pumpkins, bats, vampires, ghosts and so on. We also mentioned that the weather is getting cooler and cooler because it is Autumn!

In Math lessons, the K2 students have continued to learn counting and ordering numbers from 1-10. To make it more challenging, they are introduced to numbers 11-20 as well. We took turns to come out and played games on the smartboard, and we also did some paperwork at the tables.

In Cambridge lessons, we continued the topic on farms. We talked about how farm animals sound like: Cows go moo, hens go cluck, ducks go quack and horses go neigh! We all had fun mimicking the animal sounds! We also learned that farm animals live on farms because they provide us food or services! For example, cows give us milk, hens give us eggs and horses give us rides!

What a wonderful week we had! Thanks for tuning in and we will see you in the next one!

K3

The month is almost done and the learning continues in K3! This week we learned a new topic called Symmetry in our Math lesson. Symmetry is when an object looks the same on one side as the other. To see if an object is symmetrical, we can draw a line in the middle to show a perfect match on both sides. We used what we learned in Math to look for objects in the play area and place them on the symmetry line to see if the object is symmetrical or not. What a great activity to help us realise that a lot of objects around us is symmetrical.

This week in Cambridge we are learning prepositional words such as between, in front of, beside and next to. We accomplished a page in our workbook to help us learn when and how to use these phrases. To continue our learning even further we had a listening task where our teacher told us to stand around our classmates and choose the correct prepositional word to represent where we are standing.

As the weather changes and the leaves start to fall, we start our big discussion on Autumn season in our Critical Thinking class. We first read a book on what happens when leaves fall off the trees and why they do this when the weather starts getting cooler. We then used magnifying glasses to take a closer look and compared green leaves and withered ones that we picked off the ground. What a great week of new things to learn! Have a great week and see you in our next blog!
