It is the end of September, which means the PN students have been going to school for a month now. They have finally settled into their classrooms. For English, they are understanding the importance of tidying up. They even made a craft where they place school supplies onto a backpack. They got to meet the letter D and have lots of fun making a letter craft of a dog. For Math, they continue to build up on their counting skills by reviewing their numbers from 1-3. It’s going to be a new theme and unit for the month of October and the children are excited to find out what that might be.

It has been another wonderful week for our K1 students. For Critical Thinking this week, the children have been practicing their fine motor skills as we made a lovely rules poster for our classroom. For Cambridge, the students looked at different activities they could do in school: counting, drawing, writing, reading, singing, and writing. They have been so good at doing their workbook pages on their own. We continued to learn our letter names for Phonics this week, exploring the letters ‘I’ and ‘J’ this time. They were eager to show their great writing skills on the board and explored things that started with these letters. It was all about colours for Math this week as the children explored the colour blue and reviewed the colour yellow from last week. They were also very keen on exploring the concept of ‘Long and Short’ as we found some long and short objects around the classroom.

This week for Critical Thinking, the students were discussing about good and bad behaviours at school. They are asked to distinguish the bad behaviours and act out a way to present it into a good behaviour instead. All the students were keen to act out the different behaviours. You can tell that they fully understood and made sure to agree to the class rules. It was a fun activity to carry out with students. This allows them to re-tell the rules to the teachers and remind other classmates what they should should not do at school.

The K3’s this week learned about tally marks in math and continued to practice their addition skills. We practiced skip counting by 5’s because tally marks are done in groups of five. Ask your child to skip count with you by 5’s and see what number they can count up to. For critical thinking, we discussed goals and what we would like to learn or improve on during this school year. Goals are important to have whether they are long-term goals or short-term. We have asked the students to come up with something they would like to learn by the end of the school year. Feel free to ask your K3 student what they decided. We have been practicing yoga and stretching before physical play. It is a great challenge for the students to improve on balance and coordination. It was a quick 4-day week and we hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend!

主題︰「我的家」─家中不同的房間和其功用
今週主題繼續圍繞「我的家」。透過遊戲,老師向幼兒介紹家裏不同的房間,並引導幼兒分享及模擬在客廳、睡房及廚房等的活動,幼兒都十分感興趣,有的模仿媽媽利用掃帚打掃,有的更在老師準備的被舖裏呼呼入睡呢!
語文技巧方面,幼兒基本掌握「人」、「口」和「月」的字形和字義了,真棒啊!透過觸摸不同質感的字、圖字配對、唸兒歌、說故事等學習遊戲,老師加深幼兒的記憶及鞏固幼兒詞彙庫,爸爸媽媽在家也可運用親子家課與幼兒重溫今週的學習內容啊!

(1) 認識客廳、睡房及廚房的設備和作用
(2) 分享及模擬在不同房間的活動
(3) 掌握「人」、「口」和「月」的字形和字義

主題:「我的學校」─學校裏的不同角落
進入主題「我的學校」的最後一週,老師與幼兒一起探討時間表內的活動。首先,幼兒認識吃茶點時的禮儀,包括進食前消毒雙手、放置水壺及食物盒、進食後自己收拾及清潔等,逐漸培養自理的好習慣。另外,我們透過故事和問答遊戲總結是次主題的學習內容,提醒大家要遵守校規,時刻謙遜有禮,做個互助互愛的好孩子。
開學一個月了,幼兒進行了不同的學習活動,與同學、老師、書記和姨姨都建立了良好的關係,對學校的歸屬感變得更大,對於接下來一整年的相處奠定了個好開始呢!

主題:「玩具真好玩」-多種類的玩具
今週學習主題為「玩具真好玩」。幼兒喜歡不同玩具,因此,幼兒對這個主題十分感興趣。老師利用課室新添置的玩具作引起動機,引導幼兒討論及認識課室裏不同類型的玩具,過程中,幼兒訓練自信心及提升口語表達能力。幼兒並認識到玩具有不同類型,不同類型亦有不同的玩法,從而鞏固分類的概念。
此外,透過遊戲讓幼兒知道收拾玩具的重要性,建議家長在家多給予孩子機會收拾和整理物品,例如收拾衣服、玩具、圖書等,一方面可訓練幼兒的自理能力,另一方面能培養幼兒收拾整齊的好習慣。

主題:我們居住的地方—充滿愛的社區
今週來到主題「我們居住的地方」的尾聲了!在過去的數星期裏,小朋友認識到社區中的各種設施、香港的著名景點、使用公物的正確態度和安全守則,亦學會了如何關愛社區中有需要的人,例如讓座、捐贈物資、探訪關懷等。老師和小朋友都積極分享幫助別人的經驗和感受,藉此小朋友學習到「施比受更有福」和「助人為快樂之本」的意義呢!另外,老師鼓勵小朋友平常可多留意我們的社區,欣賞身邊的好人好事!
語文技巧方面,今週重温了已學的部首。老師把小朋友分成小組,分派小畫板予每組小朋友,當老師說出一個部首時,請小朋友合作寫出該部首的字詞,小朋友互相討論和合作,一起豐富了不同部首的詞彙呢!
